Linksys RE6400 Range Extender Overview

It works in collaboration with your host router. What it does is, it collects the signals from the router. Thereafter begin the process of multiplication and then rebroadcast these signals into various directions, so that there is no dead zone. 

 

The Linksys RE6400 setup operates on dual frequency bands. Together both 2.4GHz band and 5GHz band offer wider coverage and high speed of 1200 Mbps. Additionally the extender uses beamforming technology as well as cross band technology. The beamforming technology directs the signals of the extender directly towards your devices. Whereas the cross-band technology allows one band to receive the signals and simultaneously transmit it on the other band. Not only this with the help of smart LED light indicators, you can easily know about the exact working of Linksys re6400 setup.

Linksys RE6400 Setup Essentials 

We’ll be sharing two different setup methods. The requirements for the first method that is WPS method are:

 

  • A router with an active internet plan. 
  • Next, a properly working power outlet. 

 

Moving towards the Web GUI setup method here are the requirements for the same:

  • A router with an active internet plan.
  • Next, an ethernet wire.
  • A smart device of your choice. 
  • A vacant power outlet.
  • Username and password of your existing wifi network.
  • Lastly, user manual for grabbing default details.

 

Now before beginning with the Linksys re6400 setup steps, it’s important to learn about different meanings of different LED lights that will pop up on the front panel of the RE6400 range extender. 

 

  • Blinking Green Light depicts three different meanings. One the extender is booting up. Next, resetting to factory defaults. Lastly, when firmware upgrade is under progress, then also LED depicts blinking green light. 

 

  • A solid green light indicates that the extender is ready for the setup.

 

  • Moving further, a weak connection of the extender to the router is indicated by a solid amber light. 

 

  • Lastly, when there is no connection between the router and the RE6400 extender then the light blinks amber. 

Setup Method 1: Using WPS

 

  • First plug in the Linksys re6400 range extender close to the host router. Turn it on and let the LED light turn solid green. 

 

  • Moving to the next step, push the WPS key on the host router. Repeat the same step on the Re6400 extender. Do not take more than two minutes in doing this step. 

 

  • You’ll now notice the LED starts blinking and it will eventually turn solid green, as the Linksys re6400 setup using WPS completes. In case the LED is blinking amber then the connection has failed. So redo the steps with precision.

 

  • As the setup completes, relocate the extender halfway from the router and the area of concern. Finally, connect your devices and enjoy seamless wifi connection.

Setup Method 2: Using Internet Browser 

 

  • Begin the process by turning on the Linksys re6400 range extender. Let the extender boot up properly. It might take a few minutes.

 

  • Now take up your smart device. Connect it to the re6400 extender either wirelessly or through ethernet cable. The default wifi details are mentioned on the back panel of the router as well as in the user guide.

 

  • Thereafter, open an internet browser like chrome or internet explorer. Jump to its address bar. Now you have to fill up either the default web address or IP address and hit enter. It is http://extender.linksys.com and http://192.168.1.1 respectively. 

 

  • A window pops as you press enter. Tap on start setup option and simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Linksys re6400 setup. 

 

Note: Before finalizing the setup, it’s advisable to look for the pending firmware updates. As pending updates not only affect the security of your re6400 network but also lowers down the overall performance. So head towards the firmware upgrade section to know if there are any pending updates or not. If found then using the on-screen prompts install the upgrade.
